Friday, January 16, 2009: Challenge #2 Opening: Kara Crombie, Mark Khaisman Hope Rovelto in the Dene M. Louchheim Gallery.
It runs January 16 – March 7, 2009, with the opening on January 16, from 5:30 – 7:30pm.
“The Samuel S. Fleisher Art Memorial presents the second exhibition in the thirty-first season of the three-part Wind Challenge Exhibitions at Fleisher — the Delaware Valley's premier juried artist exhibition program. This season's nine Challenge artists were selected from a field of 368 applicants to exhibit in one of three three-person exhibitions. The second of this year's Challenge Exhibitions features a video installation by Kara Crombie, an installation by Mark Khaisman, and sculpture by John Slaby.”
Thursday, February 5, 2009: Faculty Fellowship Exhibition: Fran Gallun in the Suzanne Fleisher & Ralph Joel Roberts Gallery.
It runs from February 5 – March 7, 2009, with the opening on February 5th from 5:00 – 7:00pm.
“The Samuel S. Fleisher Art Memorial presents the work of Fran Gallun, Fleisher faculty member and Louchheim Fellowship winner. Gallun is a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Art (now University of the Arts) and has been a faculty member at Fleisher since 1988. In Gallun's latest series, she uses collage, mixed media, and printmaking to explore the geometry of her everyday surroundings. She seeks to reveal the stories and histories that lie hidden beneath the simple lines — horizontal and vertical — present in her landscapes.
The exhibition opens February 5th and runs through March 7th in the Suzanne Fleisher and Ralph Joel Roberts Gallery in Fleisher's Center for Works on Paper at 705 Christian Street, Philadelphia. The opening reception will be held on Thursday, February 5th, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
An alum of the Fleisher Art Memorial, Fran Gallun is also an instructor of painting at Rowan University. Gallun's work has been exhibited at the District of Columbia Jewish Community Center, Painted Bride Center, Port of History Museum, and Gettysburg College, among others.
The Louchheim Faculty Fellowship is a yearly award given to talented Fleisher faculty members to fund new work. Fran Gallun was chosen this year for the award and exhibition because of the extraordinary quality of her work.”
